Update: Man this thing is great, I have had the chance to play with it more.

billisa, yeah its ver. 1.15 thanks for the tip. I will not touch it, lol

Note: If you are going to import WAVs into the VF160 make sure they are 44.1/16.......:D :D :D

I tried to inport some 44.1/24. INCORRECT FORMAT or something like that. I was sweatin for a while. until I check what my computer software was recording at.:D :D :D

Once I figured it out though very easy. I messed with the EQ and revrbs some. not bad at all. too little control, (that may be a good thing, less for me to mess up, hehe)

Thanks again, from another happy VF160 user.

BTW, each of the reverbs has parameters you can individually adjust, before you even got to setting the level for a given track...

Tip Two: Make note of the little HD light to the left of the LCD. You'll see some steps are immediate, others take an extra second or so. Let the VF finish HD access before pushing more buttons, or you may get a system freeze. Like for instance, when doing any edits/erasures, you'll see some flashing for an extra second or two as the VF stores data. Let it do that before moving on to the next step...

While, we're on the subject of the ins and outs of recording/mixing, I'm going to come back to what I feel is a glaring defect in Fostex's manual. That is their failure to provide tracking and mixing sheets. If you don't use them when recording, just be sure to keep careful notes of what you're doing in case you have to step away from a project. Tracking/mixdown sheets are wonderful for remembering what you did and how you did it.
I've developed track sheets for the VF-80 and the MR-8 which I am willing to share with all who ask. I probably could copyright them and sell them but that would make it more like work and less like fun. I would post them here as an attachment for all to download but they are in .doc format for microsoft word and the forum does not accept that file extension. Maybe I should scan them as a .jpg and attach it.

I accept that extension, lol

I'm so used to computer based recording. I've never used track sheets. The tracks are named in the program as well as the songs file name. I can see where it could get confusing in the fostex, without any names for stuff, except the program.

Speaking as one who uses a standalone units for tracking, mixing, and mastering, I have found it to be indispensable.

Tracking sheets are a must. I often use various Korg units, different settings on different tracks -- DEEPLY regreatting those times I have neglected to write down what synth "sounds" I used, and when. Good luck trying to remember, or find the 1 correct drum program out of 300 that you used yesterday, or last week...

I have a 16 track sheet. It's tailored to my gear, but it can be edited. Email me at: billisa@erols.com

I'll send it as a WORD document.
