I have a VF-16. I just resurrected it by putting in a new hard drive. I am thinking of using it in conjunction with a computer based mixing program. (Cubase maybe) Anyone have any suggestions?
You *can* use it with a computer. I can think of two possibilities:
1. I record on the VF then transfer tracks as WAVs to PC (via CD or zip) to mix in Pro Tools.
2. If you had an ADAT &/or SPDIF input on your PC you could use the VF as an audio interface, to supply signal to Cubase.
i have always burnt my .wav's onto CDR's to mix on computers. i find programs much easier and more effective to work with than the 160 i own... i still love it though, just not for mixing.
i started off with Tracktion1 while they offered it for free. you can possibly still find it out there for free but Tracktion2 is about $80. its a very simple program to use and has some great effects.
i now use Adobe Audition. i dont know all the odds and ends of it yet but its fantastic for simple mixing. once you get into the hundreds of effects i get kinda lost.
just some simple suggestions, goodluck with your 16!
I also have a VF16. Is it possible, using a scsi to firewire converter, to dump my recorded tracks from the VF16 to my PowerBook? If so, any suggestions for a dependable converter? Thanks.
Interesting question. To the best of my knowledge no-one on this board has accomplished such a thing. I believe it's because of the proprietary disk formatting used by Fos. The PC will not 'see' the Fos HD.
