I got a copy of Pro Tools 10 from a friend and I don't quite get a few things yet.

On my friend's Mac he uses Logic. In Logic, I'll watch him loop a track and mess around with the EQ and it will be rendered in real time whereas I always have to hit "render" on PT's built in EQ before it changes anything. Is there a way to make it real time without buying a plug-in?
Also, the program sometimes doesn't react to rendering and I'll have to reload an older version of the audio file to start working on it again. Am I missing something?

I told PT to save my files on my 2nd HD for now. Is a 2nd HD just as good as an external HD? Or does it not matter? My OS is on an SSD and the 2nd HD is a standard PC model. My external HD is an old HD from a laptop and works at a considerably terrible speed of 5400rp/m. I was told that 7200 was the cut off point if I wanted good results in terms of performance.

I'm using a Line 6 UX2 and Ableton Live Lite 6 for about three years now for simple recording. Whenever I launch PT I always get a window that says "ASIO device properties have been changed by the device control panel. PT must be restarted for these changes to take effect. Please restart PT". What does this mean? It comes every time I start PT, restarting doesn't make it go away.

Is my computer good enough? I've got 8gb of RAM and a 4 core 2.4ghz Intel somethingorother.

Any help on any of the questions would be great! :guitar:

It sounds like you're using the non real time audio suite effects. You should try using the inserts.

[Edit] Added "non", in bold.

Do you mean plug-ins?
Are these 3rd party or already on board? I couldn't find any information about inserts other than hardware inserts and 3rd party plugins on google ;(.

Yeah, plugins. PT 10 has plenty of stock plugins to get you started. In track view you have to show the insert slots. I think in mixer view they're always there, but maybe not. Either way you make the insert slots visible then you can insert real time effects on tracks and hear changes immediately. Most if not all effects in a project are generally done this way.
