You should be able to buy as few as 20 sheets of 2x4 703, which is one bundle. The smallest I ever bought was three or four bundles, but I'm sure I could have bought just one. Keep asking around. One bundle should cost about $80.

Ok I've started construction by just building the frame and attaching it to 3/4" thick MDF for the backing.. I havn't attached the plywood panels cause I've never done this caulking business before and I want to make sure these bad boys are air tight.
But how would I go about caulking the front panels since I cannot get at the interior seams ?

Just build them as I show in my article. The only difference is you're building them onto an MDF back instead of against a wall.

Jawny,

After you cut the ply (for the front face), make sure is flushes up with the frame. Make a pilot hole for @ 2( screws or nails-what ever you are using) the panel & frame. That way you have any easier time geting it started. Apply the caulking to the frame, then attach the front panel. Yeah its a biach so be careful you don't mess up the caulk bead. You could have someone help you , it would be alot easier, plus should give you a good seal.

Cool thanks for the tips Tonio, but I'm still a little uncertain about the caulking.. Isn't it only supposed to go on at the seems and not used as a fastener ?
With this in mind I went about changing the construction plans a little bit.. I made the frame 1/4" smaller all around than the fronts and backs.. This way there is plenty of room to do caulking on exterior..
 
Yes the caulking is to make a seal only. Its(the ply wood) attached to the frame by screws or nails. I think Ethans design uses finishing nails. The ply should go over the frame.

Hey Ethan I finished the bass traps about a week ago, havn't had much time to use them yet though..
I still have to make the fiberglass only absorbers.. and
I noticed the guy that provided an updated list of item prices on your site used easy gardner weedblock fabric to cover the panels.. I couldn't find this specfic brand and type, do you think the normal black landscape stuff would work well ?
Better than burlap ?
ANybody have any idea ?

I have no idea. The main point is the material should be porous to let even the highest frequencies get through to the fiberglass, not shiny and reflective like silk or tightly woven.
