Vegas Pro opinions

Hi guys,

here's the deal...

i have 5 studios in my building,

one with a mackie d8b(x2) and neve setup. that runs in analogue and anything digital is done in pro tools.

then the other has pro tools 24/MIX+ and an Otari 24 track analoguewith 2 Yamaha 02R's.

the other studio runs Cubase or logic and it's totally digital recording.

the other two studios dont matter cus they're post production. but anyway.....

do you guys reccomend me getting in Vegas Pro for the Cubase/Logic Studio? How would it compare to my other pro tools setups? cus i dont wanna buy it if it's shit and is not reliable. i was thinking of maybe rigging up vegas pro and syncing it with the video version of vegas (the video version of vegas would actually be housed in the video edit suite). ive never tried vegas, but can someone tell me about it? is cubase/logic more reliable? or should i just get nuendo? i haven't tried nuendo either, allthough a steinberg rep is coming here in a month to show me some stuff. does anyone have any opinions they can share with me? please?!!!

id like to know what the midi capability is with vegas...and does it handle 24/96 resolution? what about 5.1 mixing? i know nuendo handles that.

Vegas is a very powerful program, and I prefer it to Alsihad (er, I mean ProTools). And as Venni mentioned it is also an excellent video editor. I know of a few pro video editors that use Vegas. The lack of MIDI support could be a detriment, but if you plan to use it for just audio files, then it will certainly be up to snuff.
 
I use Vegas 5.

I love it, very user friendly, intuitive, lots of control and the features are expansive. Right now I'm doing video editing with it. I'm starting to work on short films. I am excited to see what expansions are available, but as it sits right now, I don't really need any.

Thane1200 - hey cool. I just completed my first video with Vegas. I'm still getting the hang of using the video effects. And I used DVD Architect to burn said video to DVD. Worked right the first time - no coaster!

LongWaveStudio - If you get the full version of Vegas then you don't need to buy a seperate video editor. It's all-in-one.

And yes, Vegas does support 24/96, as well as most audio formats. There is a 5.1 plug-in but since I don't do surround I don't know how good it is.

For MIDI features, Vegas's sister product, ACID Pro, is very capable.

Hi

I like Vegas a lot.
The 5.1 isn't just a plug-in, it's now integrated right into it. There's some plug-ins to do stuff in 5.1 tho. I mainly use it for 5.1 composing.
The thing is, you'll need to buy the Vegas+DVD package to be able to export your 5.1 project to AC-3.

yes it support 24/96, but no MIDI, and it's kinda annoying.
I have to go to a friends studio to record the drum with a V-Drum on ProTools, then export that in wav, bring it back home...
I wish I could plug the drum directly in Vegas and save some time. Maybe version 7 will have it... I hope.

But I think yes Nuendo do all this, I don't know about the AC-3 output tho.
