okay i need to record (not all at the same time):
Acoustic Guitar
Electric Guitar, micing an amp
Vocals
maybe a drum kit :confused:

from what ive heard i need a large diaphram condensor and 2 small diaphram condensors to do the the first three tasks, the drums i want to use the 2 small condensors as overheads (not a priority) and ive got some mics from the bass,snare and toms.
im guessing what microphones should i get to do these jobs, and to be adequate to give a pretty high quality sound,heres the problem... im only willing to spend about £150 for the three microphones... is this possible?
i was looking at the studio projects b1 for the large diaphram condensor.

the "B" word...

...you might just want to check out Behringer's (there's that dreaded "B" word again) new C-2 SDCs...they come in matched stereo pairs, with switching for both low-frequency rolloff and -10dB attenuation, mic stand adaptors, windscreens, a stereo-bar, and a travel case for about
$49 US...that'll leave you some more bucks to put towards the LDC...here's a link in the UK:

has yeah they look COOL - the poor mans condensors :) thanks for including a link. do you know of any feedback/review of these microphones?
 
they dont seem to be out in the uk at the moment... :eek: so ill have to check if someone gets thier stock from the us
 
if your after cheap mics. check out the t.bone mics on www.thomann.de. a few people have posted about them..... i remember they are very cheap and theres quite a range of mics.
 
okay ive searched these forums and there aload of people turning thier noses up at those t.bones without any actual experience with them. have you heard anyone who owns any giving them good review and do you know which models to get (the whole fact that there copies of other microphones doesnt really help me decide :) )

You can get 4 Shure SM57 mics. They are good mics and someone told me it is all that I would ever need. So, I bought 7. You can get 3 SM57s for the $150 easy. I don't know that you need a condensor mic, but it would be nice. If you get a condensor mic then you will need phantom power, which is why I love my Shure SM57 mics. My mixer does not have the phantom power, so I bought 7 of them.

yeah the preamp im getting has it so phantom power isnt a concern.. i have just read that condensors give the best recorded results :)
 
That's not nessesarily true, especially in an acousticaly untreated room. Dynamics can do a fine job on all the things you listed (even acoustic guitar!).
 
How much does the Beyer M201 go for in the UK? Mark7? That mic can do anything :)
