I read somewhere that you can have the upgrade e-mailed to you, is this true? I have win98se, and therefore can't plug directly into my PC, so I use a CF reader/writer to transfer wav files. Would this be a hindrance to being able to upgrade via e-mail?

Perhaps I should have upgraded my PC before buying the MR-8?!?
(But that's another post!)

Turntablist,
Have you upgraded to v1.05? What is the difference?

I answered the question of the differences between 1.03 and 1.05 in a previous post. This is the email I recieved straight from Fostex.

Hi!

The major update was done with version V.1.03, and V.1.04 and V.1.05 are minor updates.

V.1.04:Logical format can be performed with the CF cards which has more than 32 sectors per track.

V.1.05: Corrected intermittent switching noise , when you swich from NORMAT to EXTENDED mode within a same card.

So not much was updated in the most recent revisions.
Hope this helps some people.

Geez!

It was staring me in the face all along! Sometimes I can't find my own arse with two hands and a flashlight!

Thanks!

that was quick and painless! (upgrade to v1.05)

I should probably post a new thread, but what the hell, while I'm here; I thought I recalled seeing somewhere in the tome of mr8, some way of deleting "left over" or "unused" space on a track to save memory. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Otherwise, I can't find a use for the 128 MB card that came with it...

Taking a poll here...

What kind of cards are most commonly used, and useful.

That would be 'DELETE UNUSED'

You can find it by tapping 'Menu', then selecting 'Song' and then in there selecting 'Delete Unused'. This will delete anything that you undid or erased FOR EVER (sandlot). so beware. It really comes in handy for all the people using that 128 chip that the mr8 came with.

In answer to the poll: PQI 512 Mb. 512 mb is more than enough for what I do. But for some reason, I still want more.

FOR EVER (sandlot).

I get it! hehe Great movie by the way.

Celler I still use my 128MB card ONLY because I send my tracks to the PC to be mixed/edited. That way I can make more tracks and save room on the MR-8.

Once again, a software question?

clifchamb,

If I've already asked you this, I can't find it, but what do you use for PC mixing? Have you ever done anything with protools?Ntracks? I've heard that protools "takes over" midi functions of other programs or something to that effect. I have a friend of a friend who swears by protools (but also happens to be a computer guru), and the original friend in question also swears by it (though he is one of those evil "mac" users, (lol) and consequently has access to any plug-in known to mankind)

The poll I saw seemed to be inconclusive in that it was not specific enough. So what's everyone use for mixing software on the PC with the MR-8??????????????

cellar,

I am using an older program called cakewalk clubtracks to mix my mr-8 tracks. I purchased clubtracks for 10.00 from the musicians friend catalog. It is pretty primitive and can only accomadate 8 tracks, but it is enough for me now and best of all it is sooo easy to use since I am an idiot when it comes to computers and digital recording/mixing etc.

I am not sure but it seems you are looking for someting with MIDI features and club tracks does not have it. But for bang for your bdbdbuck :) I highly reccomend it.
