using my 788 with my computer.

I would like to mix down my recordings on my computer rather than on my 788. How do I get the tracks from the 788 to the computer? I have a scsi disk drive attached, but I'm not sure how I go about saving a workable file. I heard I can export .wav files, but I find nothing about that in the manual.

A SoundBlaster Live card will give you S/PDIF port on your computer for cheap, which will allow you to transfer the mix to the computer entirely in the digital domain.

You can export wav. files from the 788 if you have version 2.0 of the software or later. You burn them to disk on the SCSI drive then load them onto the PC.

Thanks for your help. I do have a good sound card (Audigy Pro) and I am able to put the entire mix onto my computer, but I want to bring the tracks seperately and then mix them on my computer. I can record them one track at a time, but I was hoping for something easier. I have version 1.07 on my Tascam - can I upgrade that to 2.0?

You can upgrade. You can buy a CD-ROM or EPROM chip. Not all machines can be upgraded from the CD-ROM. It depends what version of the OS software you have. Any machine can be upgraded with a new EPROM chip. Tascam used to insist that EPROM upgrades had to be done by them. This involved shipping the machine to them, shipping costs and their fee for the upgrade. I don't know if they still do this. You would need to contact Tascam to find out. They can also tell you whether or not your machine can be upgraded from the CD-ROM. You have to have the right CD burner, too.

One last thing I should mention. I've never been completely clear whether or not you can transfer individual tracks or just a single stereo wav file. My impression was that you can transfer individual tracks but I'm not 100% sure. Again, it would be worth asking Tascam.
