I'm setting up a home recording system, but I want up to about 24 tracks. Is it possible to get 3 Layla cards and sync them all together? and if it is possible would that mean I'd need a 48 channel mixer if I want to mix the audio down from the computer to the mixer, then to some other device?

Do you need 24 tracks recorded independently and simultaneously or just need to be able to mix 24 tracks once they're recorded?

I want 8 simultaneous tracks for live recording, but I want 24 tracks for Studio Recording, and I want to mix all 24 tracks through my mixer into a CD-RW.

Save some dough and other complications by just getting one <great> 8 in 8 out card and doing the 24 track mixing in SW. You can always output 4 tracks or submixes that absitively posilutely have to have external loops to work. And if your effects are a little slow on the uptake, you can shift the
start time of the raw track back a few ms.
on the track that's fed to the effects loop.
