Hi

I am looking for a way to use a 3.5mm mini mic, the type with a 3 band plug such as the thumbtacks brand, a little differently than having it plugged right into the ear phone jack of an i-phone or similar mp3 device.

I would like to be able to use a 3-band 3.5mm mini mic, attached to a 3 to 5 foot cable so the mic itself was remote from the iphone or other device. I have not found such a cable already made, so may have to build one…so I am also looking to know how to build the cable and also find the right materials and schematic to build it correctly.

I would also want to use an adapter such as the "headset buddy" or other, that has jacks for both a head set and mic. This adapter has a 3-band plug to plug into the i-device, and then the headphones and the mic cable would plug into their respective jacks on the other end of the adapter. The mini mic would be plugged into the end of the 3-5 foot cable.

With this set-up, I would want to be able to both record onto the i-device and simultaneously monitor (hear in real time what the mic is picking up), through the headphone.

Is this possible. Any idea where I could find the right 3-5 foot cable, and the best adapter to do this. For recording and monitoring, would I need any other app for this set-up, to operate on an iphone or similar device?

I also understand there may need to be an app employed that would allow the i-phone’s earphone port to have this two-way capability for simultaneous input from the mic and monitoring/listening through the headphones.

I would appreciate any insight you might offer.

Thanks
Galen
