Using Diffusors

Hi people,
I've just purchased a couple of floor to ceiling Quadratic Residue diffusors (5 feet wide) for my studio and would like to get some tips on mic and instrument placement for recording acoustic guitar. The sound of the guitar is significantly better by ear but I'm having a little trouble recording this. Any ideas ?

Excellent choice on getting diffusion instead of absorbtion/foam, much better sound. What are your room specs and layout, and what exactly did you buy? Post a link to what you bought, since I am also in the market for a LOT fo diffusion.

Damn, 5 feet wide.... where did you get these and what are they, what did they cost... never seen any quite that big before.

I don't wanna hijack the thread but. I just started making my own diffusers. I'm using the random length blocks of pressure treated 4" x 4" glued and screwed to a 2' x 2' x 3/4" piece of birch. Lengths range from 12" down to 2". I have seen pictures of diffusers like this so I can't wait to try them out. The only problem is they weigh in at about 90lbs each. WoW

Room dimentions are 2.64m floor to ceiling, 2.97m wide (the wall the speakers are on), 3.66m long. The room is not custom made.. but it's the only space I've got in a very small house...plasterboard walls. I have carpet on the floor and there are 5 absorber panels down around the speakers to improve imaging....... ceiling, corners and 2 on the wall between the speakers. These were custom made by a guy here in Adelaide (Australia) who has an acoustic consulting buisness (very rare here). It's a small buisness but he does work all over Australia, the panels he makes are not expensive (~$US60 each) and they work brilliantly and look really pro.

I inquired about diffusors recently with him and it turned out he had some that had been lying around for a long time.. left over from a big order. He did me a special deal (I think )... 2 panels with dimentions 2400 X 600 X 240mm for $AUS660 the pair (about $US350). There's a heck of a lot of work in making these things and I think I got a good deal. But I'm still working out how to use them.

The company is "Aro Technology"... no web page but he is on email and could design something I spose... probably not worth it for US customers though as the construction is the hard part.
