Using Cubase with a Sub mixer

I've been using Cubase recently, mostly to get recordings from analog equipment to digital. Right now, I'm trying to record directly into Cubase via a sub-mixer or other analog equipment, but I can't get it working correctly.

Chain:

Tascam 388 (stereo outs) > Lexicon Alpha (line 1 and line 2 ins) > Cubase

In Cubase, I can't seem to get line 1 to go to track 1, and line 2 to go to track 2. Should be a simple bussing issue, right? I've got no problem using a stereo track in Cubase and getting everything, but I need to separate the two for mixing.

Create 2 mono tracks

Go to the first one, and assign "Stereo in --> left"

Go to the second one, and assign "Stereo in --> right"

Set both gains to the same value.

Off you go
