Using an amp as a pre amp

IMHO you should just marry your girlfriend. Her mesa would become your common property. Make sure you sell your two amps before you pop the question, and keep the cash in your sock drawer. :cool:

True, but not everyone would recognize them as such.

as long as it is a 1/4" line level out it should work shouldnt it?[/QUOTE]

This may seem obvious, but there are line-level outs that are not 1/4"- afore mentioned Pignose's pre-amp out is 1/8", and some amps' line out is XLR...

right but anXLR would have to be transformed and the 1/8" is a stereo is it not?
you could use a stereo end but you would have to affix a TS end, the left and right wire would be soldered on the same terminal before it would work on the other amp unless the female receptacle on the other amp accepted either TS or TRS input jack, would it not?

Starbuck,
Don't need to marry her. Law here in Australia is that we've lived together long enough that common property applies already. That includes her black Les Paul.
Anyway, if I married her, I'd have to find a new girlfriend.
Mike.

Begging your pardon (really, I am trying to be respectful, here) but all these would work, to some (ahem) "level":

LINE out;
Effects Loop Send;
Pre-Amp out (like on a Pignose Model 100);
"Slave" out;
Headphone out (altho 'phone outputs tend to be a bit hot, they are not hot enough to fry anything- it might just sound like crap- turn the volume down on the Orange 15.)

My amp only has a stupid effects loop. I really wish they would have added a preamp output. Then I could get the signal from right after the preamp. Even better would be if they also added a Power amp in, so I could send a signal to the power section.

:rolleyes:

If the OP you were referring to was me, yes- I initially thought running the Orange speaker output into the Marshall.

Clearly by advice given, the idea is pretty stupid if it will fry the Marshall.

Using the headphone output? Well if it sounds like crap then I may as well find a decent foot pedal.

To make the idea workable is more trouble than what it is worth.

As I said, I need to trade the amp or give the Mesa a try. A bit disappointed that with general level difference between the dirty and clean channels though.

Whoa, there, Outlaws. Either you are truly making a joke, (one that I somehow didn't "get",) or you have missed the boat. An effects loop IS a preamp output AND a Power Amp in, even if the effects loop is in the form of a single (but TRS) "insert" plug.

I think he was being sarcastic. It's a delicate art in written form :)

Also check out a VHT.
