Is it possible to use two ADATs as A/D converters to a computer? What card would be the best for this? Is it then possible to add tracks to the two ADATs giving me virtually 32 tracks? Thanks for any help you can give me in advance.

Yes it is possible. I would not recommend the ADAT PCR card, though it works well for me. You need a PCR that will allow you to sync to the ADAT as well, for transfer.

I used to do this before I got an HD24. The best PC interface to use with ADATs is the MOTU 2408. One unit can handle up to 3 ADAT Machines (3 sets of ADAT lightpipes). Their PCI card that it hooks up to can handle up to 3 units. That equals 72 tracks from one PCI slot (3 MOTU 2408 & 9 ADATs).

Hey the_landlord,

That's the setup I'm using right now.....into the Adats
and lightpiped out to the Motu 2408MKII. Works great!
I can record direct to the computer, or slip a tape in
and record to Adat without skipping a beat...so to speak!

Another option is the Dakota/Montana bundle from Frontierdesign. I paid less than $500 for it. Gives me 32 tracks in via lightpipe, although I only need 24.

I use the MOTU 2408 and love it. It also gives you options for TDIF if you are interested in Digital Mixers at higher bit rates and Tascam Products.
