Using a Universal Apollo twin as a standalone mic pre?

Hi,

I wonder if you could answer this question for before I spend a chunk of change on a used Apollo twin….

I have a Presonus Quantum and Quantum 2626 Daisy chanined as my Primary Daw Interface.

I have this linked to my live room for drum recording etc….

I was thinking of getting a used Apollo Twin and having a play with the unison technology and the plugins.

Maybe use the two inputs on the Apollo for drum OH etc…

I’m thinking I plug 2 mics into an Apollo solo\twin , record the Drum Overheads through the unison mic pres then send this output into the line input of the Quantum and record the result….

Basically using the Apollo as a custom mic pre?

I know I can swap the playback and recording device in Studio One on the fly but I want to be able to use the UAD pres, as say drum overheads ,and the quantum inputs for the rest of the drums….so being able to record more than 2 inputs at the same time….

Can anyone see any issues with this? Or will the ADA conversion using the UAD console then the Presonus AD conversions cause to much latency?

Or will this not work at all?

Thanks!

You want more than 2 channels for drums. I think only one ASIO at a time will work. Never tried linking two different interfaces with one ASIO.

The unison models that I have tried are top notch pluggins.

I have 24 inputs for drums….in my post I say…use the UAD pres, as say drum overheads ,and the quantum inputs for the rest of the drums….so being able to record more than 2 inputs at the same time….

any idea what I propose will work? Basically take the analogue out of the Apollo into 2 line ins of the quantum…

The DAW can only select one ASIO driver at a time. Will the Quantum work okay with the UA driver?

No , that’s not what I’m asking….the Apollo works in Standalone mode so not engaged in the DAW….it only needs to be connected to a computer to configure the UAD console and load the plugins….

Yes, it should work as a preamp, using the stand alone front end.
