Using a hi-fi stereo system as a playback in my live room?

My studio is in the final stages of construction and I started thinking about what I can use as a playback system in my "live room". The room itself is not that big; roughly 20x13 with lots of jogs and cutouts, so it makes it even smaller. It's perfect for me, personally. I have a control room on the other side of the wall so I will usually be listening to my mixes back there. But I obviously need a playback system at the very least just for listening out in the main room.

I own quite a few very good vintage receivers and some nice speakers. Being that the room isn't that big, and I don't have to listen at ear-splitting levels, couldn't that work? I am using my Tascam 388 for tracking/mixing, so I haven't really figured out yet how to connect all this stuff so it works the way I want it to, but I figured it has to work.

Thoughts?

I think most anything that sounds decent would be OK for a playback system in the live room...it's mainly for cues and general playback, so you won't be making critical decisions off of it.

I have a pair of really sweet Technics 3-way speakers that are from a Hi-Fi stereo system, that I use in my studio sometimes just for that same sort of purpose.
The nice thing is that they can really fill out the room, and since they have built in mid & high level control, I can balance them out pretty close to what my main studio monitors sound like...so it's not a rude slap in the face listening on them. :D

I should have thought ahead and drilled/mounted some plates on the wall with speaker terminals... that would have been nice...

I have a nice, flat-sounding Yamaha CR-600 and 620; a Marantz 2265 and a Harman/Kardon 430 Twin... with that I have some really cool vintage Criterion and Pioneer speakers. The Criterions are what I was thinking of using...

Exactly, this is why I thought of using a receiver that has controls on it so I can shape it to be more pleasant in the live room if I just feel like hanging in there and listening to some tunes.

Also, can you place speakers in front of corner bass traps or is that stupid?
