Using a cup over a microphone?

Makes you wonder why they don't sell especially designed cups for recording engineers.

They do. They're little foam square thingies that set around and behind the head. Don't recall the brand.


I hate the way the straps ride up your butt though.

I actually had some free time a few days ago and gave this one a try. I used a toilet paper roll. I'm guessing it only stuck out about 1/4" past the tip of mic.

In this one situation, I was amazed at how well the snare sounded and the hihat was reduced. It may have been a fluke, but I plan on trying it again. I may try it on toms too.

You can get many of the same benefits by placing a foam cup over the mic.
