Traitorous Usurper
I apologize if this should've went to the Cave, but at least it involves a microphone and I figured you might enjoy a little "WTF?" read.

I decided to go bargain hunting at some pawn shops on Saturday (even figuring I might find some of my old gear!) and I found one that had the above mentioned mic for a "mere" $230. I figured that I at least owed some random courtesy to the employees and I let them know that before they get laughed off of the face of the planet, that the mic was actually selling brand new at Guitar Center for around $99. I was prepared for the "yeah, you're full of shit" expression that was immediately offered by the employee.

Pawnshop Dumbass: "Well, of course we'll have to research this."

Me: Sounds good. I'll wait.

PD: (incredulous stare, followed by blank expression and some drool.)

Me: Seriously, I want this. Just call up Guitar Center. It's rather easy to verify if I'm lying or not.

PD: (yelling at Pawnshop Dumbass number 2) Hey, call up Guitar Center and see how much they sell...(looks at mic case)..."Oak TV" mics for.

PD#2 does the required research and sure enough..."Hey, Guitar Center sells these for 99 bucks."

PD: .........(more drooling, some sniveling)

Me: Cool. How much do I get it for?

PD: (spends 5 minutes on calculator) Well, 65 dollars.

Me: Hmmm....maybe....

PD: Waitaminute...were you wanting this TODAY???

Me: Uhhh...that's kind of the idea....

PD: Well, the thing is, if you buy it today it's really gonna make my numbers look bad. It would really be better if I could sell it to you on a Monday.

Me: Are you fucking serious?? (I start drooling and sniveling. Idiocy travels by osmosis.)

PD: Well....yeah.

Me: (takes a mental shit on his counter and leaves with no mic.)

Ya just gotta love people sometimes.

Wow....that's um.....one heck of a screaming deal! (cough)(cough).

I have vowed never again to enter a pawnshop, regardless of how tempting any deals may seem. They are just too much trouble to deal with. The last time I was in one, they had a made-in-Mexico Fender Strat ($350) new at the special "sale" price of $550. Right.

Pawnshop Soap Opera's

They love to play mind games.

I had a friend offer to buy something from a pawnshop for $550.00 that was marked $900.00
I think it pissed the guy off or He just didn't like Him.Who Knows?
So I ask my friend if He would mind if I pursued it since I was in the market for the same item. So I went in after about two weeks of those two bickering over price and I laid $500.00 down on the counter. Without even a blink it was mine.
He made sure everybody knew I paid $500.00
I had complete stranger ask me if I was the one who bought it.

Although I walked away with a sweet deal this time I’ve had the same thing happen to me.
I made a fair offer on something that had been on the shelf for over a year, the guy just didn’t like me. I even sent a friend in to make an offer and He wouldn’t budge because He knew what was going on.

They get a bug up their ass and you might as well move on down the road.

IF it were an Okatva sold through www.oktava.com it's worth more because they go through them for QC, whereas the ones at Guitar Center are hit and miss.

FWIW I'd only buy through the above website for an Oktava vs. GC.

But you get a pretty cedar box that makes it sound better.

i was just pointing out that the mic at the pawn shop, the MK319, didnt come from the Sound Room ( www.oktava.com ) because they sell the MC319......
