usb mixer problem/question

i have a usb mixer that when it is plugged into a usb port, my stereo speakers wont work for sounds and other media on my computer such as media player....
what is the cause and how can i fix it with the usb device still plugged in

You're trying to use 2 soundcards at once. You can't, at least not with windows' built in stuff like WMP. Go into control panel, then sounds and audio devices (or something like that) click on audio, and then change the selection from the mixer to your built in sound. You will have to switch back and forth between the 2 every time you want to use the different sound cards.

The easy thing to do would be to just plug your speakers into your mixer, and run all of your audio through the mixer.
