USB Audio Interface (Roland Duo Capture EX) - Keyboard Quality is bad

Hello everyone.

I have the following setup, and am quite new to this:
Yamaha DGX660 Digital Piano Keyboard
Roland DUO CAPTURE EX (https://www.roland.com/global/products/duo-capture_ex)

Setup: Yamaha keyboard --> jack cable --> Roland Duo Capture --> USB --> Laptop

Problem: when I have my headphones in the Roland Duo Capture, the piano sounds totally different (very low quality).

1. The output from the Yamaha piano is via the "phones/output". When I put in headphones via the jack, the sound is perfect. So the problem is not in the output of the piano.
2. I tried all possible settings/combinations on the Roland Duo Capture, but nothing changes the sound.
3. The jack cable is in good condition.

Do you have any idea what could be the problem?

Have you got your Roland DUO CAPTURE EX's Direct Monitor switch set to Stereo?

The headphone impedance is low enough @ 47 ohms, so that shouldn't be a problem.
 
USB drivers. Are the Roland drivers recognized by the DAW? The DAW inputs and outputs are selected?
 
If you want to preserve the stereo image that you hear from the keyboard's headphpne socket, you will need to get a cable that is TRS at the end that plugs into that socket, and splits into two TS ends that plug into the interface channels 1 and 2. If you are just using TS to TSA, or TRS to TRS, you will only get a mono sound.
 
Yeah, either convert the headphone (stereo) out to a mono input or use a splitter and go in both channels. I'd suspect stereo cable is being used, and treated as balanced, so the flipped polarity of one channel is effectively nulling out most of the input.

Assuming you've got a 1/4" stereo-stereo cable you're using now, here's what I mean:
