Actuallly, the article shows the results to be much different for PC.
I use both USB 2.0 and Firewire 400 external drives on my PC, and there is no noticable difference in speed between the two (With identical hardrives and the same brand enclosures).
Both are very fast, but apparently firewire is faster for external hard drives on PCs running windows.
For just recording audio, I doubt you'd find a difference.
Why'd I go firewire? Because I only have 8 USB plugs on my PC and most of my hardware is USB based. Mouse/keyboard/webcam/printer/joystick/battery backup/M-Audio Trigger Finger.
I leave that last port on the top of my PC for things I use sparingly. MP3 cable, digital camera cable, etc. My motherboard has one firewire port so I thought it would be smart to make use of it.
yes, they are different...however the tests say that USB showed 27-33MBps on a PC. This is opposed to USB 2.0 claiming it runs 60MBps.
looks like there was no test done on PC for firewire. But USB 2.0 claiming it's faster than Firewire 1394a...and is tested almost double USB rate on a Mac????
