US-144 driver randomly disappearing

Most of the time the interface works just fine. I'm using Cubase and using the interface as the audio output. But sometimes, out of the blue, there's no sound. I go to the Tascam control panel and it says Device: none found. I can't count the number of times I've reinstalled the driver, and I've definitely triple/quadruple checked that I'm using the correct driver for my operating system. I've emailed Tascam's support and they're no help. Should I just ditch this thing and get a better interface?

ive the exact same issue with the tascam US800.

ive installed it onto a laptop running Vista and one running Win7.
For me it cant recognise the US800 after ive turned the laptops back on.
I have to unplug and plug back in the adaptor .

Its slightly annoying :/
