Hi I just got me new us-122l and I found out that I can just use it as a sound card, like having the sound coming out of the headphone jack or line out instead of my laptop's speakers. The problem is that I can get the regular wave audio to work, but I can't hear midi even if I switch the MIDI music play back from Microsoft Gs Wavetable Synth to Us - 122L in the control panel And I'm not really trying to put any keyboards or anything through it, I just want to hear midi sounds form programs like Power Tab etc.

Any ideas?

Tascam US-122L is a MIDI interface

The Tascam US-122L is a MIDI interface, but it is not a MIDI instrument. It can be used to connect other tone generators and midi triggered instruments, like a syth, or drum machine. The sounds from those instruments would come from their own line/headphone outs.

If you have a MIDI keyboard, you can plug it into the US-122L as a MIDI controller and then "play" the Microsoft Gs Wavetable Synth as a MIDI instrument. The sound from this software instrument would either come out of your computer speakers, or could also be routed through the US-122L outs. Keep in mind though, that the 122L isn't generating the sound, the MIDI "instrument" in your computer would be.
