Hey
I've got a behriger ub802 (or something like that)
I know it's not that good, but it was the only thing I could get and so far it is working for me...
My friend will be in the US so I can have some stuff shipped over to him from amazon.

Should I get a:

"AKG PERCEPTION100 " for 73$
(http://www.amazon.com/AKG-PERCEPTIO...796671-5850353?ie=UTF8&n=172282&s=electronics)

OR

"Nady SCM-920" for 50$
(http://www.amazon.com/Nady-Scm-920-...8796671-5850353?ie=UTF8&s=musical-instruments)

OR

"shure sm57" for 90$ and a "behringer mic100" pre amp for 50$. I don't really trust the pre-amp on the mixing table. Or should I save the 50$ cause the mic100 is just worthless?

I thought: "well I have phanton power, so I might as well use it" but on the other hand the shure could be a good Idea.

Basically I want to record my stuff on the pc, vocal, electric and acoustic guitar, nothing fancy. So would those condensers with the phanton power from the mixer be any better than the shure and the preamp?

Anyways thx for the help, but please awnser as fast as you can, cause I'm ordering it very soon otherwise it won't get there in time.

Oh, you can't say "save your money and buy better stuff" cause that is not an option ;)

And sorry for the writing, it's 4:11am here
thx again

Get the 57 because you can keep it and use it forever. The other stuff you'll want to get rid of eventually.

Get a 57 and a ART Tube MP Studio ($29.99 at http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ART-Tube-MP-Studio-Mic-Preamp?sku=180581 ) Dang they are out of them for at least two weeks, never mind that thought. The Behringer pre you listed is copied from the ART. Hmmmm, the 57 will work with the 802 though, might have a little noise on finger picked acoustic guitar, but for vocals and electric guitar he should be fine. What interface/sound card is this going into?

I would get a GLS ES-57, a sm-57 copy that sounds great and is only $30. you can find them at the speakerrepair.com store. Then I would get a set of Naiant mics for acoustic @ www.naiant.com. you can get a pair for $44. These mics will probably cover all of your bases well and keep some cash in your pocket for upgrades which you are going to want in about a month or two when you realize something isnt up to snuff (it will probably be that mixer).

Keep the mixer and get the two mics surfmaster mentioned.

Thanks all for the help

SRR, The ub802 is connected to a m-audio Audiphile 2496.
I think you're right, might as well go with the sm57, looks more solid...

Travis and surfmaster, the problem with the mics you listed is that the speakerapair site does not accept internetional cards and the Naiant MSH-2 are sold out and will be back only in mid february. And the msh-1 pay-pal link is out of order.

I'll probably go with the 57, I'm still open for other Ideas though ;)

What is a good price for mic cables? 15$ ?

Should this one be alright: HOSA 20 AWG MIC CABLE, NEUTRIK XLR - 1/4"PHONE, 15 ft. (18$+6$) http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...0353?_encoding=UTF8&m=A3IHVK7SOJGEA7&v=glance

thanks again

Regardless of what you do now, keep checking back on the naiant site -- I just got some of those MSH-1's (an omni pair and a cardioid pair), and they're impressive -- much better for what I'm doing than my SM57 (and it sounds like you're doing what I'm doing). I ordered them before the MSH-2's came up on the site -- I probably would have gone for the MSH-2's.

all right, so here is the thing, I won't order today, I'll buy something in a store here in Canada where I am right now... that means I have more time to look for stuff ( until the 11th of march when I leave :P ).

I'll write down those mics you guys told me about and look for this stuff in stores around here.
More suggestions are welcomed

antichief do you use your msh-1 also for singing or only with acoustic instruments? Is it any good with guitar amps? What do you use to power it?

So far I've used the omnis for recording a small amp at a low volume -- I wanted to get a thin, far away sound for an intro, and I had tried the same thing with a pair of EV 635a's, but got a painful ringing sound on some of the single notes. The msh-1s sounded much better (the sound is thin, but that's the amp/guitar setup - not the mics, and it was on purpose).

I've also recorded acoustic guitar with the omnis - my other set of mics for this is a pair of SM-81s. They're both good, but the naiants seem more clear (good or bad, depending on the desired effect - I like the SM81s, too).

I haven't used the cardioids yet -- I plan to use them on louder amps.

I've got a Presonus Inspire, and it's got more than enough gain for the naiant mics (but barely enough for the EVs), and provides phantom power. I've also got a couple of low end "toob" pres (presonus and art) -- they both supply phantom power, and each has more than enough gain.

You *do* need a quite room for the omnis, but I have to believe that would be true for any condenser omnis.

Cool stuff antichief, do you have some samples of what you are recording?

What about SHS Om-450 ? Are they any good or are they just crap?
