...
i don't think this is a question that can be factually answered, and i found info here and there,,,but really i'm just looking for opinions,,

what i'm wandering is, at what point does something become 'too good' for something else....

specifically, i use a focusrite octo into a 003 via adat.

Is there a point where i buy a microphone and am not hearing the benefit of it through my octo....

and in terms of pres,,,if i run new pres into the 5-8 line ins on the digi, is there a point where the pres outweigh digi's converters to the point that it's a waste?

hope this isn't too vague for ya :)

thanks in advance.

ok,thanks for that,,,

don't take it as a stupid question folks,,,,i'm looking for something like,

"i bought a u87 and used it with my motu 8pre. It wasn't until i bought an avalon m5 that i realised the true potential of the mic"

Yes, but impossible to answer with any specificity.

I can say this (from excessive reading here, but not from experience) -- if you want to get in touch with your signal chain, go for nice monitors and room treatment first. Then you'll get the detailed information about your specific setup that no one could ever provide, and will know much better where your weak spots are and what to do about them.

Me, I'm putting that off for as long as I can so I can enjoy what I have and speculate about how good it might sound if I listened to it properly (and, of course, remain ignorant about how not-good it probably does actually sound :D )
