ok. so i have a roland vs840, a minidisc walkman, a minidisc and 4 zip discs worth of songs..
i want to upload my songs onto the internet and into wav or mp3 files but i have no idea how to...
help please!!!
xoxo

You need to record into a computer. Using a soundcard line in from the 840 master outputs into a sound editor/recorder program. Record as a .wav file for best quality then make the mp3 from that.
What computer, soundcard and audio programs do you have at the moment?

the only audio program i have is winamp, which i'm almost certain you can';trecord onto...what is the best one to download(free)?

Actually, it may be possible to record into Winamp though it may involve getting an extra "plug in" for it - not tried it myself.

Here's a free recorder, Audacity...

It requires another free item to make mp3s with, the LAME encoder...

The Webattack site is a good place to find free and shareware of all kinds.

Obviously, if you like the mixes you have on mini disc then record those into the pc. You'll probably need a cable with 2 RCA phono plugs to a stereo mini jack for the computers line in. Don't use the mic input. Assuming you don't have a digital audio input on the computer.

Musicmatch. Its also a good player for Mp3s and Wave files from the Internet.
Make sure of the format conversion the site lets you use to post Mp3s. Most are 128 kbps

Any program that converts wave files into Mp3 or other compressed format that the site is using. Musicmatch is just one. You convert the file first then upload it.

...thanks Duck...my original prediction of 12 months from 2480 purchase to the web might just be able to be improved upon...I am in month 8 right now...slow learner...

slow learner...
None of this stuff is that simple. Even after you learn the Machine you have to learn how to mix properly. That can take years to learn. It takes time and knowledge to become a master at it. Id rather be playing myself and let a real Engineer record and Mix it. But even a 2480 is cheaper than recording time in a big studio though.
If you already have finished songs I would start the Conversion process just to get familiar with it. If you plan on using an existing site Go Iuma first! As far as Im concerned Mp3.com sucks.

ok, but i'm pretty certain i don't have a sound card on my computer. what i really need to know is...can i transfer them directly from the recording module to a minidisc walkman? and exactly what sort of cable i'd need to do it.
thanks

If your computer makes any type of sound more sophisticated than a beep it has a sound card. It may be pretty crappy but it's there if you need to use it.

I don't see what hooking up to the mini disc will do for you. You still need to get it into the computer and the only way to do that is to use a stand alone CD burner or the sound card.

If you want to go from the VS to the MD then hook up the main outs on the VS to the input on the MD. Just look at what type of jacks it uses on each end and get that type of cable. My guess is the VS will have two mono 1/4" or RCA jacks and the MiniDisc input will be a stereo 1/8" mini jack. Press play on the VS and Record on the MD.

I don’t know if an 840 has optical connections, but the VS880EX does. For about $100 you can get a soundcard with optical ins and do a digital copy into a program like Cakewalk or sonar, then edit and/or convert it to mp3. The optical cables will pick up no external noise, and since it's a digital copy, you'll avoid the DA conversion. :D

so i plug what cable into the recording module and put it into what hole in the hard drive. sorry guys. i'm just so technically illiterate it's not funny.
