UK source for thinline bodies?

I wonder if any of you know a good source of good quality thinline basic unfinished bodies in the UK. On ebay there's several but the control routing is for the std telecaster type guitar - I doubt the longer thinline pick guard would cover the control chamber.

I'm wanting to convert my standard american tele into a thinline due to the sheer weight of the thing (not good for bad backs!).

PS have any of you done anything like this before - any tips for a first time "builder" (more of a conversion job! )

I'm not entirely sure of what your after but if I have got it correct I was asked to do a similar thing a while back and the costs involved are prohibitive for what is essentially a one off body. I honestly don't know of any off the shelf bodies that would do what you want.

The solution I came up with at the time was to supply a hand cut pickguard to suit what the customer could get for his partscaster. Much cheaper than than routing a new body.

Have you got a link to the bodies on ebay and why they don't suit? I assume the idea is to keep the standard control cavity on a thinline body and use all your existing tele fittings?

OK, I think I'm with you know. Unfortunately I think as far as UK suppliers off the shelf you're pretty much out of luck as far as I know. You may have to bit the bullet and buy from abroad or stump up a bit more cash and have one made by the few custom shops that do that sort of work.

The wood cost and man hours involved in routing a one off body make it a bit dearer than your budget. You may have some luck dropping by http://www.tdpri.com/forum/index.php and asking in their Tele Home Dept board. There are quite a few Brits there that have been in a similar situation as yourself and they would be more up to speed on what bodies are available here and where to get them.

Sorry I can't be more help but on the rare occasions I do tele builds I build from scratch.
