Sounds good bro, but the bass seems too loud or too much low end to it. It clears right up when the bass stops. Maybe try to EQ some of the low end out of it, or just turn it down a little. Up to you :D

Just in the chorus? or all the time - I think I need to tweak my multi-band compressor

Sounds a bit too mono to me, everything's concentrated in the middle. Especially the guitars should be panned out further. You've got a whole sound panorama, you should try to use it better. Not a big friend of the guitar sound, it's quite scratchy. Nice catchy song though and the singing's pretty good. Just needs some work.

I listened to the second version. I really like the song. Great energy. Cool vocal performance. Great little guitar riff.

Drums are OK. A couple of fills sound a little machine-gun-like. I liked the overall tone on the drums.

Someone said the mix is narrow. I agree.

Guitar is a little scratchy. A little thin. I wish it was double tracked.

Bass is a little sterile sounding. Personal preference thing - I can see where someone else might like it. But I'd rather hear some more low mids in it.

Great feedback guys - thanks - I double tracked the guitar to open it up a little - added a couple little lead parts int here to spice it up some :p

Version 3 - Double tracked the guitar part

thanks for all the feedback so far - keep it coming :) - tried out a new vocal thing here - I guess its working out

I'm also curious what the multi-band compressor is doing for you. I've never used one.

the bass was spiking during the chorus by like 10 dB - I first tried to tame it with a multi-band compressor (5orcery) that is essentially 5 compressors that constrain to a specific range of an EQ - so you can compress just the 60k-125k range etc.

But I scrapped that and just automated the faders :p

did some slight level adjustments to bring it all together a bit more

Version 4 - brought up guitars and mids in bass - think I got a final mix here:

Double tracking the guitars seems to have spread things out pretty well. I think the tone is still a little on the thin, scratchy side though maybe.

It's a fun tune. I listened a few times and enjoyed picking out some of the funny lyrics each time through...

is the guitar thing something I can fix with eq? maybe notch out some highs or something?

This is a good fun one Wes, made me think of the B52s a little.

I thought the guitar sounded fine - with the punky sound of the tune, I think slightly scratchy works. I wanted the vocal screeches to be louder though and hit me in the face more, rather than seeming to drown into the mix - and I thought the vocals generally could be a touch higher. I thought the panned right cymbal is too prominent in the mix and could do with either not being panned so hard or a little quieter. Other than that, cool

Cool song. I like your band. Drums and vocals seem pretty cool. The guitars tone is pretty bad to me, but that's personal taste. It's scratchy and thin. I hate the bass. It's terrible. It's like a hump of midrange with just enough mud to make it lack punch or clarity but it's way out front in the mix. Sounds like you mic'd the back of the bass cab. Not good. It actually sounds better when the bass drops out. Lol. Just fix the bass and I think it would be good.

I think that's a really cool location to start with. The drummer reminds me of someone from Pawn Stars.

It looks like you spent a lot of time on effects and I can't imagine the headaches that must accompany trying to line up all of those cuts just right.

There did seem to be a lot of repetition though with the whirlpool effect and the location not changing, but still pretty cool man.

I should have filmed another set to mix in. Making a video is harder than making the song...

I like the bass sound, guitars sound harsh though in my opinion. And it seems to have some timing issues

I don't know how to mix stuff like this, but I REALLY want to hear this song! Right now - on my system - the bass is floating in mid-air out in front of the mix, the kick is at least twice as loud as the snare and I an only catch occasional glimpses of the words and I KNOW there's some funny stuff there. I would listen to greg, either by reading what he wrote, or by literally listening to greg.

Thanks, I'm gonna retrack the bass when i get back into town. I tweaked the amp some and got a better tone I think. The bass line in "its all right" is with the new settings.
