Two Distortion Guitar

Hep guys,

I was wondering how you make distortion guitar especially on a Hardcore Rock or Metal sounds like two (one on Each monitor L and R). Do you play one guitar track on the Left and play another track on the right? or is it just one but add some effects(which i dont know) to make sound like two?

Two separate performances on two separate tracks.
You can use effects or a simple track delay, but there's nothing like the real thing.
