two C1's for OH? or can i get better with same $

well the title explains it... i was thinkin aobut gettin two C1s for OHS...cause im gettin one for VOX.. so i figured by one more for OHs? or is thier somtehin better around the same price?
 
You may get great results by picking up 2 mk012's. You can usually find a pair of them at GC for $200. Which, I think is about the same price you would pay for the C1. This would also give you a little more variation for micing. Just a thought.
 
Guitar Center has been pricing the MK012 and the MK319 at buy one and get one which means two mics for $100. You could get a pair of each for $200 if you get them while on sale.
 
ok.. thanks for the repsonses... but why would a SP B1 be good for OH.. but not a Sp c 1 ? hmm... right now i am using the focus rite pres in my 002 rack.. and im using the cm88s that came in a nady drum pack.... pack was around 180 for 7 mics.... if i get the MK319... will i hear an audible difference? or will i have to spend a little more... and if so.. what mics would that be talking about..?
 
The C1s are too hyped in the wrong places to effectively work as OHs. Too much around and below 100Hz. Too much bet 4k-7k and not around 2k. The scoop they have is meant for vocals, not drums and they sound very unnatural on drums. They dont have the superfast response and nice decay on transients that a good OH mic needs and they sound more squashed without compression than any mic Ive ever heard. Which is not bad thing on vocals or a lo-fi acoustic guitar but on drums its bad 9.9 times out of 10.

Check out CADs new revamped equitek series and their M series. They EQ real well.

I think the SP B3s are better than the B1s, in cardioid. Good OHs, accurate, focused, nice sounding without too much room. They take EQ pretty well too.

For a certain kind of sound, I think the V67s are not bad as OHs either(depending on your preamps...I tried them through the RNP which has a 'focusing' effect on the V67). Though you definitely want to have seprate tom mics going on bec they are muddy around 300 Hz. For $200 for 2 mics you could do alot worse.
 
B1s

im lookin into the B1s.... if i use the focusrite ptres that come with the 002r.... say if i get a pair of studio project B1s.... will i hear a big difference after using the nady cm 88s ? (OHs that came in nady DMK 7 mic pack)
 
I haven't used any of the Studio Projects mics but I've got the N ady CM90s and I've never used them. Really midrangey and I never seem to think of trying it. It may be decent on guitar but doesn't sound nearly as good as my Oktava MK012s. I would imagine that most any often menitoned small diaphragm condensor will be better than the Nady ones.

This is off topic but the kick mic in those Nady drum packs have worked really well for micing bass and guitar amps.

ok.. so ive narrowed it down between the mk012's and the B1's.... one is a small daiprahm and one a large... is one better for OHs? do either of em have a -10 pad or some pad?
 
i personally think that the MK012's sound great as overheads, and on acoustic guitars. i dont know about the B1s, but i've heard alot more positive talk about the 012s really being outstanding in those, and more people referring to the B1 as just being like 'it doesnt completely suck on anything' kind of mic...
 
wait... are the B1 and studio projects B1 the same thing? is studio projects a line of behringer mics?
 
The B1 Behringer is in no way shape or form related to the SP B1.And has been mentioned the SP B3 is a much better mic for overheads than the the SP B1.You may like the C1 for vocals but its not good for overheads for the very resons mentioned.At the price for the SP C1 you could get a pair of SD condensers which would give you a much better variety of mics to do many more things with. If you buy the 012 Octavas @ Git-Target, be sure and try several through headphones before accepting them.Though its not a failsafe method, you can tell instantly whether or not its a decent sounding mic with just yer voice on phones.
 
SD=small diameter...LD=large diameter as in Small Diameter Condenser....Large Diameter Condenser.

hey.. update... maybe this will change the suggestions on wat mics to use for OH... i jsut sold my delta sound card.. so thats 200 more... so i have about 400... im thinkin maybe get a C 1 for vox and octava for OH.... i saw on a site the SP c4... the site says they are great for OH.. ... anyone ever use em? thinki its a good choice?if not... wat pair of mics can i get for around 250-400 for OH?

The Oktava MC-012 are good overhead mics.

I've never used the C4's before, but I've read good things about them. However, I'm a little confused about them because I read in one review that the C4's are kind of flat like the Shure SM81 and I read in another review that C4's are colored... so I'm some what confused about them. Maybe someone can tell you (and I) more about them... anyone?

C1's can work fine as OH's. There is always something different or better but they will more than get the job done.

That song was done using a C1 and an MXL V93 as OH's. Any good mic will work. The drummer, kit and room are more important then the mic.

Along with several other mics, the AT 4040 was mentioned as good OH solution. Of course, the AT 4040 would exhaust about 75 percent of your budget (I think they sell for about $299). It does, however, offer a wide variety of uses from acoustic instruments to vocals and enjoys a good reputation along with most 40 series AT mics.
