Tube Amp suggestions

I use a Boss ME-5 Guitar effects processor and I mainly have a quite heavy sound dialled in with a very sweet clean sound at the press of a pedal. I generally use the same setings I have done for the last 10 years or so. The Laney Quad Box kicks the Marshalls ass in every way but the two mic'd up together sound awesome......"PHAT" :)

My god do those amps kick ass!!!!!!!!

i have audio clips below in my signature of that amp.......all of the songs are done with the Legacy amp.........

I agree, I'm a fan, but the guy did say "hard rock/heavy metal"...... wont get that from a Traynor.

What is it you dont like about the Marshall sound?

What about Diezel or Budda? What's your budget?
 
If you're going to try out a bunch of amps, see if you can try out an Engl Powerball. I've not had the chance to check one out myself as they aren't too common round my way, but they are quite highly regarded, and I've seen a few bands playing them and they have a pretty fucking brutal sound.

Kind of Deftones guitar tone, but a bit different.
JCM2000 is nothing like a mesa boogie.
Mesa is so much more detailed.

mesa boogies are decent amps but way over rated and overpriced, a year ago I was in a similar prediciment .I was running through a marshall vs100 (the original valvestate) I was running digital distortion into a tube line/mic pre amp and then into the clean channel on the marshall, great sound just not a whole lot of volume(that is through a 4x12) I went to the guitar center and tried everything they had, I was not impressed at all with the marshalls(very weak distortion) my whole goal was to get an amp with a good sounding overdrive and of course all tube I tried every amp you could ever want for metal except a diezel and a peavey I narrowed it down to 2 amps while I was there--the mesa tripple and the VHT pitbull hands down the VHT spanked the mesa big time they are kinda spendy though like the mesas(18-2500 for just the head) I finally went into a smaller shop locally and tried a Peavey 6505 I was totally impressed
but I still wasnt sold finally I tried a Peavey JSX and holy shit!!! that was it ,similar to the 6505 and xxx as far as flavor but way more bottom end due to the el-34's I would say that mesa is definately a crisp sounding amp but really lacks on the low end the JSX will stomp any mesa rectifier head and it will cost about 500 dollars less !!
mesa is just a name!! oh and KRANK amps- Dont waste your time same category as mesa loud crisp and absolutely no balls as far as true low end go with a Peavey JSX I gaurantee youll be more than happy with it dont get me wrong ,if I could have afforded it I would have gone with the VHT but honestly Im more then happy with my JSX ive recorded 2 different demos with it and have performed live 6 different times with it and all the musicians in the crowd have commented on the fact that it kept low end and good presence regardless of where they were at in the club something that cant be said with mesa and the 6505's and KRANKS trust me get a JSX
