TSR 8 Ch 5-8 noisier than 1-4

Hi all, getting my recently acquired TSR-8 tuned up. I have an MRL tape and actually found a calibration test setup from my old DAW to run a 1k tone out at 316mv -10db to the inputs. The input levels and meter levels are spot on for the settings in the service manual, which I was pleasantly surprised at. I'll check the output levels later. My MRL tape is 250 at 15"/s with 4 tones. My question is tracks 1-4 without DBX are a little hissy but normal tape hissy. 1-5 are a louder hissy and have the occasional crackle as well. Also sounds like I'm hearing the motors through the heads if that makes sense. In any case engaging DBX seems to take care of it but I was wondering if it sounds like a card seating issue or is there something else to look at? Anyone seen something similar? Thanks in advance. BTW I'm running a brand new reel of RTM SM911. I also haven't demagnetized but will this evening. Could magnetization cause this on only tracks 5-8?
