So I've desperately been trying to learn how sing for the past 5 years, without much luck or much input. I'm a guitar player that's been playing for 10 years and I've always wanted to be able to sing as well as play. Could I possibly get some input on whether I should keep trying or not? I would very much appreciate it! Thanks so much!

Here's a cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah"

And here's a cover of Sean Lennon's "Parachute"

You sing better than I do and I am not going to stop any time soon. Your voice may not be award winning, but if you understand your vocals, write or select the songs and work them correctly, your voice is going to carry you well. No reason to stop, now just work with what you have.

Ah, they're two quite hard songs to sing. But you sang em pretty perfectly. My only gripe is that YOU yourself don't seem convinced. :)

I like your voice, it's totally in tune, just a bit lacking in confidence. Go for it, keep going. Whatever you do, don't doubt yourself, because you've absolutely no reason to.

Thank you all so much for your input! See, I've been trying to learn to sing in secret for about 5 years. None of my family or friends have ever heard me, and I've been quite embarrassed to sing in front of anyone, as most of the people I know seem to give a lot of destructive criticism.

Thank you very much Headline, I appreciate that!

I appreciate the tips very much DM60. I will absolutely keep that in mind and keep working with what I have for sure.

And fritsthegirl, I'm so glad you think so! I will work on not doubting myself and singing with more confidence from now on.
