Im trying to mix from the pa board to the 1/8 mic jack on my laptop. its a powered PA (400x2). when i run the jack from the speaker out to the laptop, i just get fuzz, loud fuzz. what can i do to output a clean mix?

try using the LINE IN JACK...not the mic jack for starters..but i still think your sound will be compromised using a standard laptop soundcard...might wanna look into getting a external soundcard

Uh... You might also NOT want to run the amplified speaker out into your computer!

Try using a stereo line output into the 1/8" stereo line input.

Cheers,
Samantha

yeah the power going in to your sound card from that could have ruined your card

yea...what he said...I have a friend who did this once. Since your sound card is expecting a LINE LEVEL signal..and you are putting in...400 watts correct??? more than likely, you will be purchasing a new soundcard.

My old bass head had a speaker out on an XLR. I was doing something else when the sound guy plugged the DI cable into it.....

:D It was the venue's engineer. Luckily I spotted it before unmuting the amp. He had just very stupidly given our singer a hard time for not being loud enough to get enough level on their shitty house PA - I could have repaid him but was feeling benevolent!

ok good news...
my fashionably ghetto studio is not fried (and when i mean "studio"... i mean my laptop sound card (default 1/8 mic jack). you ask "why are you so terribly unfortunate?" i simply reply... "... i dont know" but thats not the point. the point is i just record my newly titled "ghetto tracks" to get my "good ideas" onto tape (not really tape but my mic stand needs some badly), after that i take the idea to a rather well known band in the southeast that helps me with my songs and my recordings. they make a good bit of money as pro musicians so they got the whole shibang. the sound quality of the recordings that come out of their equipment make mine sound as if i sharpie-ed some sound waves on toilet paper, rolled it back up, shoved it in a casset tape and played it through my yak bak.
wish me luck...
