Hi, whoever saw this.

I've got four microphones two SM 58 and two SM 57.

1.- The thing is that I don't know how to place them all upon recording drums.

2.- For recording guitars, is it better to have the SM57 close to the amplifier an then the Sm58 a few feet apart?.

3.- Which one of these would perform better while miking bass guitars.

Thanks

Welcome nicolaad. As far as I know the 57's are more suited for instrument micing and the 58's for vocals. But I don't think that's written in stone. There's a microphone forum here too that you might want to check out (sorry if you already did). Good luck :)

I would do this:
57 on Kick with polarity (phase) inverted
57 on snare
58's for overheads

For guitar just put a 57 up against the speaker and find where it sounds good. Any other mics add as needed for whatever effects or sound you are going for.

Bass is usually best recorded direct but you can try micing the cab and see what works for you.
