truss's anyone?

You must be looking in my binder! I've considered using trusses instead of track lighting. My thoughts were to give the room more of a "live" on-stage feel. I know the right "atmosphere" is important when recording. I know. I'll put some of my PAR stage lights up there and blind them so they think they really are on a stage :D They'll work up a sweat quick too. Also, I could easily change the color filters to change the mood of the room. I would put lower wattage lights in them though. I don't want to run up the electric bill too much.

fun stuff

too good, I guess we have some of the same ideas. I have a s___tload of stuff to post from lighting to dixplay stuff. And I have access to order them if anyone is interested. Ever heard of Stylmark? Aluminum extrusions that are tooo cool. 1000 shapes, 500 colors, 12' lenghts. I use them for everything from door jam trim, to custom rackmount
angles(drill and tap them myself) to lighting valances,to custom diffusers, to exhibit mouldings. They snap on screwon backplates. Lots of other things too. Makes for hi-tech look. I'll start posting them here if anyones interested. I have one of the truss's over my console.

Howdy all, since this IS a HR display forum, I thought I would post some things I use in my design work and my studio. Here is a truss system I use for lighting and overhead mic booms, etc.

I use 8' sections, found in a used store fixtures store. They are used for lots of things.
Hang um, stand em up etc. Heres more.

I have an awful 7' ceiling in my home studio, so truss lighting will give me... a... 5.5' ceiling :(

Use em for something else.

Hi frederic, say, weld up a short leg for each end. use them as a monitor shelf, or even a console stand. That would be cool. Light weight . Hi tech looking . Stand 2 short ones on end for audio monitor stands. just slap a triangular pc of mdf on top. I LIKE to use stuff for unusual uses. I just got a whole bunch of different diameter pvc tubes. 14"d to 6"d Short pcs. 6' and less. I'll split them into half rounds and make a diffuser! See my post on slot resonators. Theres a picture on that site somewhare that shows what I'm talking about. Anyway, just thoughts. How is your studio coming? Keep us informed!

Actually, I have to redo the console table anyway. Now that I have two 19" tube-based monitors on the shelf, the whole thing leans to the left in an eerie way. I cannot accept two 19" monitors, two audio monitors, and six TMD1000's getting damaged when this falls.

Maybe 2x4's and deck screws aren't the right thing to do :)

So I'm going to keep the "black pipe" that the front lips of the mixers rest on, but going to build the rest of it out of PVC and glue it together for strength.

And paint it black :)

I also want to rearrange, yet again. Trying to cram what I have into a 13'x18' space sucks, thats for sure.

See, I've decided to keep the home studio, and just not add gear to it, and when the new space is fully occupied, I'll have new gear for that. Still struggling on the console choice.

Yeah, that's pretty cool. Seems like it would give your studio a sort of warehouse-y feel. I like the live - on stage idea.

Hey frederic, wanna trade, mine is 9' x 11', thats why I make use of every sq. inch!
But only for a little while more. I should hear today on my offer. Have you decideded to go analog for your new board yet, or stay with digital?
Boy did I have a rude awakening last night. And I am going to have to readjust my thinking. For a long time I couldn't for the life of me figure out what it was people were trying to do with slat absorbers.(seems like common sense doesn't it?)duh.!!! I must be thick headed when it comes to some things! Flash!! Light bulbs!!! Oh, ah, well, ah...you mean to tell me....nah...yea....couldn't be .....your missin somethin Rick..... ....wait....this can't be.....it is!......Lets look at John's SAE..........HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!
I feel like a total dunce!!!.......What a moron................thinking adustment time!

Nice..... but muy expensivo I bet.

Plus, I don’t trust anything that comes out of Spring Texas. I lived there for a year when I was about 13 yrs old. It was the worst year of my life.;)

No trades on space.

I have an alesis compressor I'll trade for another behringer compressor :)

Yeah, I know what you mean about making available every square inch. Thats why my vocal booth is over the stair well.

Analog or digital... my my... no, I haven't decided.

Mackie 8 bus is the analog way to go - cheap, decent quality, predictable sound. I hate their EQ, but I could get used to it. And its infinately expandable in 24 channel increments. Expandability is important to me.

Digital, I considered the digital 8 bus, but it annoys me that to have two of them cascaded together, I'd have wasted control surface space with two auto locators. Bleah.

I could go Tascam DM24, but only two can be cascaded. This means that the left pair and the right pair (I'd need four) would force me to either waste input channels on the second pair (bad) or link them with s/pdif, thus stereo. That sucks too.

Everything else is very expensive.

I considered the Sony DMX, but its only 48 channels total max. There is no real way to cascade them without giving up eight input channels on one board. Not to my liking.

Protools I just don't like. Its a great product, don't get me wrong, but I'm just uncomfortable with it.

I've been "casually" looking around for a used SSL analog in the late 80's vintage, but those of course are still very expensive. Same for Neve, Amek, Trident, yada yada.

I love the sound of the Ghost, but its not as expandable as Mackie. Thats one thing Mackie got right - add 24 channels with a big nasty bussing cable and call it a day. Very easy to install.

And don't worry about not getting the slot resonator thing. Its one thing to physically hear the difference - thats easy. Buy/make one and stick it in. But to understand the physics often requires a lot more concentration.

Me, I like to copy good designs and glue things to walls. My ears can compensate for a non-perfect room to some degree. As long as its ballpark I'll survive.

Some of my mixing environments have been pitiful. Very pitiful.
