i posted this problem before but wasnt able to fix it...my problem is that all of a sudden n-track wont record new tracks separately from the ones above it!! example: im doing a cover and have the original song on track 1, record vocals onto track 2...but track 2 consists of both tracks combined. i dont know what happened, i didnt change any settings around, maybe i did by accident..how do i fix this??

Post questions like this on the n-track board... we got your answers (usually).

In the Recording VU meters, there is a button "rec->new". Keep it pressed and it will make sure that you will always record to a new track and not on the one you currently have selected (or you can specify which track to record to...)

Also check the Windows audio mixer to make sure "What You Hear" isn't checked in the Recording Properties. That'll blend any playback with the new recording stream. (This little bugger will sometimes reset itself and cause this kind of grief.)

i tried the recording VU meter pressing, no luck. ive now discovered that whenever i playback a previous track, the VU Recording bars move....how do i access the mixer? i pressed the little speaker icon on the lower right corner of windows...but i never had to mute anything for it to work before i had this problem. right now im contemplating erasing my hard drive because i just cant take this anymore.

The Windows Audio Mixer is at:

Start>Programs>Accessories>Entertainment>VolumeControl

Click Options>Properties>Recording>OK

You want to make sure that ONLY the line-in is checked (if your preamp or mixer is connected to the line-in port)

What soundcard are you using?

thank you!!! even though only microphone was selected, i told it to show of the devices and all of them are selected to record...stupid microsoft. so should i only have microphone selected? thats why i did and it fixed it, but i dont have my mixer with me right now, will that still work or do i need to activate a 2nd device? (couldnt find line-in) there is: wave, synth, CD, microphone, auxillary, modem, and tv tuner. and by the way, i have the esoniq card that came with my comp a while ago, i seen on the internet that although this is a fairly cheap card, it does have decent sound quality. my problem is the mixing process :-D i usually put compression on vocals and guitar...sometimes drums, and play around with other random effects. im doing a cover of U2's "One" and im trying to get that keyboard-like sound on the right backup guitar...im not really sure how.
