Trouble recording with Ableton Live 8

Help! I'm having trouble recording with Ableton Live 8.

I just bought my first recording equipment:
Mic = Rode NT-A
Audio Interface = Focusrite Scarlett 8i6
It came with software Scarlett MixControl and Ableton Live 8.
It also came with a bunch of cool plug-ins for compression, Gate...

But all I want to start with is to sing into my new mic and record into the Ableton Live 8 software but I get no sound in the recording track from my mic.

I also hear nothing from Live 8 through my monitor speaker or headphones (not any of the sounds that come with it).

I can hear my singing in the mic through the monitor speaker and headphones but no singing gets to the Live 8. Ahhh!

There is also the Scarlett MixControl DAW that collects the sound from the Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 box. Maybe I don't have the 2 'pointing' at each other correctly.

Anyone familiar with this kind of set up?

It seems to be able to make all kinds of music but I just want to start with recording using my new mic.

You probably need to select the input device and output device (the Focusrite) within Ableton, the menu is at the end of the audio tracks. It's the same for setting midi on the midi tracks.

It most likely told you when you fired up Live 8 that the interface wasn't correct. Witzendos is right.

Go to the tab labeled Options in the upper left hand side of your screen, scroll to the bottom of that list and click on Preferences, then click on the second selection from the top labeled Audio.
Choose ASIO for the Driver Type selection, then make sure that Focusrite USB 2.0 Audio Driver is selected for Audio Device".
You shouldn't have to worry about Input Config or Output Config.
Now...when you click on Hardware Setup, it should open up the Scarlett MixControl application.
On the left hand side of the screen, you will find a button labeled Routing Preset. I chose the DAW selection, but it didn't work right either.
So...click on DAW for Routing Preset, but try the following settings (as this is how I got mine to work) and see if it helps...

To the right of the Routing Preset button...
- Monitor Output 1 should be DAW 1
- Monitor Output 2 should be DAW 2
- Line Output 3 should be Mix 1 (L)
- Line Output 4 should be Mix 1 (R)
- SPDIF Output 1 should be Off (I'm not using this output)
- SPDIF Output 2 should be Off (I'm not using this output)
- Loop Back 1 should be Off (Haven't fooled with this yet)
- Loop Back 2 should be Off (haven't fooled with this yet)

Hope this helps. I just got the Scarlett 8i6. I'm really digging it.

Thanks a bunch! I did all this and got some results. I was still pulling my hair out because the sound was coming out the computer speakers and not my earphones. Then I felt a little stupid when the guy at the store told me to set Windows to have Scarlett as the default audio in and out. Duh.

Now I can try out my new Mic. Yeah!

Sorry I didn't mention setting the Windows preference. Kind of assumed you'd done that.
