Most important is what you think is most important to you - you asked a very subjective question. Comparing never was a choice in music! You should start to listen music in kind of different ways than you're doing it now for your own safety

I think a great lyric and a great melody, make for a great song. I believe they go hand in hand. If you have one and not the other, you have a mediocre song...just my opinion )

I don't care too much for the lyrics. The music has always been more important, that's why I am a musician rather than a poet. although there's music in poetry too!
