I am wanting to transform my garage into a practice room/recording studio space but I am not sure where to begin. I have all the equipment but I just don't know how to soundproof or get good acoustics and things like this. Please if anyone has suggestions, ideas, or other places I could get info from please let me know and the cheaper the option the better. thank you

"Cheap" and "good" are mutually exclusive propositions.

Getting good acoustics will be orders of magnitude "cheaper" than soundproofing your garage, which typically would include major construction.

Why don't you start by giving us some details about the space, such as: dimensions, current construction, HVAC, distance to street/neighbors etc.

Also, what instruments/type of music you want to record/practice?

i got one of these

I am in your same situation although i have figured out what works for me. i have a two car garage, half of which is actually occupied by a car and the other half i use for my studio and rehearsal equipment. For sound treatment of the room there are two ways to go about it: the right way or the cheap way. I chose the cheap way :). i just hang up old blanket on every wall i can to dampen the sound. you could sound treat the room the right way by looking up some info on bass trap and insulation panels, but the sheets were free! you can see from the pictures i downloaded how my actual layout is. Main problem with garages is the room reverb. the blankets really do help with that portion of the problem. i record my band's live rehearsals i think by next week i'll mix this weeks rehearsal and put them up in the mp3 mix clinic to see what you think about the room sound and what others think. garage studio left.webp

garage studio right.webp

Using a garage

I'm using a portion on my garage as a studio/practice space, the construction of the false wall and trapping isn't done yet, for the time being I'm using blankets and some cheap foam "fatigue mats" on the side door at least until I can get more cash. Monitors are on their way...

Here's the thread on the planned layout:

My garage is a two car garage not sure on dimensions sorry i haven't had time. The nieghbors dont care at all about the sound so we don't have to worry about that. the ceiling is finished with dry wall so there are no pipes or ducts running above. Right no we really dont have anything up besides carpet on the ground. There are also a stack of boxs along one wall and cabinets here and there. I am wanting to get better acoustics and stuff before anything else since it seems like it would be a cheaper and easier route. but still I am not sure how to go about this.
