Transferred .wav file is very low in volume

When I transfer a stereo wav file to my PC, the level is quite low and I have to boost up the volume on my speakers to hear it. Is this a normal occurrence with the MR-8, or am I just recording my basic tracks at too low a level? When I transfer the analog output from the MR-8 to my computer and compare it to the wav transferred digitally, the analog signal is at a higher level.
 
You know, I'm, glad you brought it up. I've noticed the same thing.

I just thought that the output from the MR-8 to the monitors was higher to start with requiring less amplification from the monitors. I could be 100% wrong though and I'd like to know.

The MR8 levels tend to be low. The gain and slider adjustments can make some difference. The other option is to use a normalization function in the mix process to make the result louder.

Ed, I use Cakewalk. What I have been doing is adding 3db. I can't remember exactly which function does it but it seems to help. Is Normalization a better way to go?

If there is a level mismatch between different peices of gear in your signal path, the better way is to find and fix the mismtach rather than applying DSP (including normalizing) to compensate.

EVERY DSP process you put your digital signal thru will cost you in terms of degradation due to round-off error in digital processing algorithms.
