Very good clarity on everything. Almost too crisp though. I'd back down the level of the shakers. They're a nice touch. Just at that level they grab too much attention.

The only other thing I might suggest is having the bass play a drone note when that piano hits that big crash chord (e.g., at 1:30). Or if it's playing (tough to tell if it's the bass or the low end of the piano), play louder. The song builds up anticipation, and when it hits there isn't a strong enough low end.

Hi Triple M
Thanks for your advice... I have had a go at some of your suggestions as best I can...

I brang the shakers down a notch... Increased the gain on the piano around 1:30

Ive also included some subtle panning & volume automations...

Not quite sure what I can do about crispness though

If you have a moment feel free to have a listen and let me know what you think.

Thanks

Actually I liked I liked mix #1 overall better. The guitar in the intro was a little more sterile sounding in mix #2. I liked the way it sounded in mix #1 better. I will say that the level of the shaker in mix #2 sounds right to my ear, so I'd consider that an improvement.

I still want a bigger impact when that first piano chord hits around :42. I want a low end BAM!! to smack me in the face.

I didn't notice this before, but you're getting some clipping late in the song. It starts in the mid 2:50's and goes on for 8-10 seconds. It's fairly minor, but it's noticeable.

I agree with TM on the piano (on take 2), but the Ebow effect is a bit loud on my system. At around 0.48, it seems is should be somewhat lower, a bit higher than the rest, but not as loud as it is in the mix. Your drowning out the guitar picking. Seems to settle down at around 1:20 when you are not on the high notes.

The peaks need to be tamed, not compressed, I would use fader automation to level them out a bit. Once you tame the Ebow track, then the shakers will need to be revisited as it seems you are trying to compete the shakers with the Ebow track. I noticed the clipping as well, but would not have if it wasn't mentioned. Once again, I think it is track volume control.

I think the Ebow is a cool affect and i will be picking one up very soon. Never knew they existed, but I could see using one in my style of music.

Good stuff.

Very cool sounds. I like the song/arrangement. What I noticed was that the shaker isn't exactly on the beat/keeping a steady beat. That was distracting. That e bow is really neat. Thanks for sharing!

Are those bassy notes near the beginning accients? E string note bumps or you touching the bass before playing?
Distracting.
Not much bottom end happening.
The EBow nees to be tamed.
It's a nice effcet but needs to fit.
For how it was done before it was invented listen to Fripp & Eno No Pussyfooting or Evening Star or the otehr variety - the Gizmo on Godley & Creme's Consequences (or on some tracks on 801's Listen Now).
I've long wanted an Ebow but they are just TOO expensive.
Nice music - a little to bright/brittle needs the dynamic looked at as mentioned.

Hi all... First of all, thank you for your comments... they are very much appreciated...

I have taken onboard some comments and tried making some further adjustments...

I have applied some eq, made volume & panning automations and tried to tame the e-bow a little too.

Still would like to add more depth or space or something but not sure how

I have added the tracks to youtube... just follow the link

Feel free to comment further
