Track sheet

I use Logic Pro 9 and it allows you to leave extensive notes for each track with the notes feature (often I come back to a project forgetting which pickup I was using, or some other such thing) but I hardly ever remember to use it. Hence I've got scraps of paper laying round all over the place...

Hi All!

I'm new here(obviously). And loving the site!

I'm a first year audio student and have a request if you don't mind.
Regarding taking notes on recording techniques, during tracking. How do you format/ layout your notes??

And how many pages of an A4 lecture pad would you generally use?(say for an average rock band 4-5pc, during 1 track)

hope you can help
Regards

Paul

I use a copy of each channel strip on paper and mark all of the locations of settings on the knobs with a pen.

For each track recorded I number a line on the page and make any pertinant notes such as what keyboard patches used, any dynamics settings,
effect settings, or anything else I might find useful for a future re-mix.

It's tough to remember all of this crap five years after the fact. Mounting a tape with only a track assignment sheet pretty much starts you at square one for a re-mix. The above information could get me in the ball park with only minor adjustments (or major adjustments if desired). At any rate, it provides a reference for a starting point instead of starting from scratch.
