Ok, I finally have almost enough money to start building a computer based DAW.

Now I need to decide.

Pro Tools Digi001 or a Delta 1010 with logica audio platinum. Similar prices (I'd add plugins to the 001, which would even it up).

What do you guys recommend?

I recommend the fish.

Seriously though, both cards are pretty damn good. You would be happy with either one.

001 wins hands down. Sounds great and the GUI is second to none. Usnless you want to do heaps of midi, then go for Logic.

I like the pro tools interface too. Plus I can't even demo Logic to see if I could get used to it. But I do have some misgivings about the Digi 001.

-No support for windows beyond ME, and none for a while, it looks like.

-Plugins are harder to find

-Limited to 24 tracks, which I suppose wouldn't be that bad, 24 is still a lot. But it would be nice not to be limited.

The Digi Windows team are working very hard on WinXP as we speak. That and AVI support are there top priority. I don't think it will be too far down the track. They now have a dedicated Windows team working on bringing PC PTLE into line with the Mac. I think we'll be seeing big improvements in the PC side of things in the next couple of years.

I hope so. It took them along time to come out with the ME version. ANd you had to pay for the upgrade. Plus I don't want to have to buy two OSes. If I get the 001, I'll just stick with 98, I hear that people get really stable systems with that anyway.

Thats another reason I'm leaning in the direction of the Digi, despite my misgivings. The fact that its package and on a well built system it should be really stable.
