One more thought,
With some ingenuity you can use Microsoft Sound Recorder. I used it for the recording/mixing of instrument tracks and it worked pretty damn good. Take the length of what you want to record and add like up to a minute or so, record that amount of times worth of dead air (need 5 minutes of recording time? record 6 minutes of dead air) This will get you past the 1 minute intervals. You can also adjust volume levels, cut and splice with the program. So simple, yet so many possibilites!
