Some of my choices...

Bettie Serveert

They Might Be Giants

Don't feel guilty. Bettie Serveert and They Might Be Giants are two friggin awesome bands.

As for me:

Outkast
Black-Eyed Peas
Duncan Sheik
Lisa Loeb
N.W.A.

Yeah, TMBG is something nobody should ever feel guilty about.

1. Definitely KC and the Sunshine band
2. Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five
3. Cheap Trick
4. The Baby's (Brittish band opened for Journey in 1980) Midnight Rendevoux and back on my feet again
5. Yanni live at the Accropolis...very cheesy I know but the bass player on that is killer and very nice use of dynamics un like the over compressed crappy sound on FM radio these days.....Let the flames begin!

Aaron (starter of this thread): Thanks for the idea. This has been a very healing thread. No, that doesn't mean I'm up for a group hug.

I caught part of the Yanni @ the Accropolis on PBS a few years ago, and for the ensuing years have carried the guilt of actually kinda liking it. I know it's wrong. And the Baby's...although I only know the 2 songs that were popular in the early 80's....and Cheap Trick....

Could it be that we are more similar than we realize?

Sorry, still no group hug.

I don't think any of these qualify, especially not N.W.A. If anyone doesn't know or dig at least one of their tracks, there's something definately wrong

As for my painful list:

Extreme
Bon Jovi
Skid Row
Fiona Apple
Amy Mann

Oh yeah, Extreme. I thought their first album kicked some super ass. Musical, Funky, Funny: everything most other hair bands left out. I'll have to pull that out and listen again.

And Aimee Mann - no shame there.

You are among friends here. ;)

Jason Mraz
The Argument (guys, listen to their Inflatable Amy... the best love song ever  )
Jack Johnson
Leon Russell (saw her live in October :D )

I don't see any shame in digging Jason Mraz. He is a great songwriter, an incredible vocalist, and an all round nice guy. Got to meet him and hang around during his soundcheck here in Seattle last summer, and he is about as mellow a guy as you'll ever meet.
If you have any doubts, check out his new DVD called Not Tonight, Not Again. Some of the scat-style harmonies he sings w/ Toca Rivera are un-frikkin'-believable!

And by the way....

Coun't me in on some of that '80's stuff: White Lion, Quite Riot, Helix, etc... I am ashamed. :(
