Hey. I have A DW Kit. 10,13,16,18,22

Right now i have 2 MXL 2001 mics as overheads (sound great for the money i.m.o.). I have a SM57 on the snare and my new, beloved Beta 52 on the kick. I love my cymbal, snare and kick sounds, BUT the toms seen distant in the mix! NO attack at all. I am recording into a Presonus Firepod and using Nuendo 2. I need 3 channels for my guitarists and bassist, so i have 5 channels to make everything work. Only problem, I am already using 4 inputs for my drums! I am thinking about buying 2 mics and spliting one mic between toms.

Here is my question. Should i pick up 2 dynamic mics and use a "Y" cable to wire them into one input on the firepod?

ALSO!!!!

With my 16" and 18" floor toms, would a SM57 be able to pick up the low end? I have them tuned medium but with lots of tome coming out of them.!!

Charlie

Just to give you an idea, here is a "pic" of my kit.

I would put some sort of condensor between both sets of toms, then pan them in cubase. It might help to have one of your guitar players come back in and overdub. I have a firepod, and can use 4 inputs and get a great drum sound. You might want to rethink your placement....
though....
if it aint broke..dont fix it

I am not going to overdub. For pro-recordings, we get free studio time at a multi-million dollar studio (Euphonix board,(x10) HD192,...). Should i just Y 2 SM57's together and compress that track and use it for added attack on the toms? I just feel that the toms are top defined enought. Not enough attack. Is that placement? Were do you all place your OH's?

get a mixer

Get a mixer for the drum mics and send a stereo mix to two inputs on your firepod. That will obviously limit some things in mixdown, if you want to get fancy with panning individual sounds to R or L.

That aint a new idea! I want to keep as much control of the sound after-ther-fact as possible. Maybe just ying together 2 sm57's!

o, im sorry ur jelious! I was trying to get people's opinions. Yes, i play a DW kit and im proud of it!

buy a second firepod, daisey chain them, and get 20 total tracks
