What are your guys' preferences on tom heads? I play rock and metal...

Remo clear Emperors. A lot of people like Ambassadors as well.

For rock and metal I would have to say Emperors or Pinstripes. The Emperors are more open than the Pinstripes which tend to be more "punchy".

I found that for recording.... toms sound great with Coated Embassadors. For live.... Emporers sound nice and punchy and have a low end that sounds sweet. I have 100% birch shells if that matteres to you.

I've been using all Remo Ambassadors, coated on my snare, clear on the rest. Works great for my small kit, but I don't play real heavy stuff ;)

It also kind of depends on how you want your drums to sound because there's rock and metal bands that have muffled 'thud' sounding toms and those that have open ringy toms. Listen to records and find out what they use, it shouldn't be too hard to find on the internet.
