Oh wonderful source thou are... I'm gonna pick up something for use as a bass DI, something cheap like an ART MP or maybe that mini-pre thing you guys have. In the adverts, dbx puts it in there with thier silver lines of preamps. I doubt this thing has any similarity to the 586, but I was wondering.... at the price, they had to skimp somewhere. Was wondering if you could find out where things were skimped, if the op amps are upgradeable (to Burr Browns), and in general, what you thought of it as a bass DI, if you've used it that way. Compared to an ART, too, if you've used that one also.
Thanks,
Paul

It works great as a bass D.I. I've been using for that very purpose. To be honest I don't think marketing should be giving the impression that it ranks with the 500 series. Its a $100 accessory box, no more no less. I think its great for a D.I., I wouldn't run lead vocals through it though. I wouldn't run lead vocals through an ART tube MP either, so what do I know?

Spend a little more money and get the dbx 286A - it's a great bass DI, plus a great vocal pre, with comp, de-essing, High & Low EQ boost and a gate! You might be able to pick up the older model (286) used for cheaper. I've got one and I love it!
