Deliberately trying to get the snare out of the overheads by aiming them away from the snare will just lead to more off-axis snare sound, which is almost always going to be less sonically pleasing than an on-axis sound. Why not focus on getting a "good" snare sound in the overheads first?

corban said:Yeah, if the snare sounds bad in the room mics, then either the snare is tuned poorly or there are phase issues with the overheads. Either way, the larger issue to look at is that it sounds bad in the overheads, cause its gonna be hard to get a good snare sound out of your mix.
